Yes, 2010 was great but, unfortunately, it's time to hit reset on my running goals. It pained me to take away my little turtle who had traveled so very far this year but he's happy -- he's somewhere in Florida. He didn't quite make it to Disney World (that would be 1200 miles) so I'd guess he's hanging outside Daytona Beach somewhere, soaking up the sun, eating some fruit. He did good, my little turtle. I owe him a lot.
This is the year of the snail. Actually, I think turtles move faster than snails (I'll have to Google that) but you get the idea, slow-moving critter. That's me. The snail is a girl so we'll see how far she gets this year. I know where 1000 miles took me last year (hello, to the finish line of the NYC marathon!), I'm looking forward to seeing where I can go with it this year.
I got the first run of 2011 over with. I say "over with" because I really didn't want to do it. It's crappy out today -- it's humid but raw, it's rainy but it's not. It's just lousy. I went to Crossfit in the morning to get the rules of our 6-week Paleo Diet challenge (which is going to be, like, impossible but I'll give it a shot) and did my run in OS while I was there. I was slow. I felt like I had a hard time getting air into my lungs. At first I thought it was because I was not feeling well but when I spoke to my mom later I said how lousy my run was and before I finished she said "the air is so heavy." That's exactly what it was, heavy. It was hard to get in, hard to get the oxygen to my muscles, just hard. I was slower than I should be on this course, some of my fastest times have been on this route, but I did it: 8.17 miles. My snail moved off the zero. It's all good.
