Crawling the walls...

LITERALLY!

The snow wasn't as bad as it could have been but it was still going when I woke up and the plow hadn't come yet (it just came at 1:51 pm) so I stayed home today. We're supposed to get another huge storm next week so I can see how someone would start to go a little batty at this point with the snow. So what do you do when that happens? You do a wall climb!

I wanted to do it again to see if I could do it better than when I was at CF so I went into the guest room and I went right up. I got perfectly flat against the wall and it was awesome. Until I got down and saw that I had left nice red marks from my Uggs on the wall. Oops.

They're hard to see here but, trust me, they're there. I wisely did it in the guest room and if the door is open no one will ever see them. They're high! I guess it's because it's my height plus the height of my outstretched arms. Next time I'll wear my gym shoes that have never been worn outside. But I like doing these wall climbs. I never could do a handstand as a kid so to be able to do one at the tender age of 39 kind of rocks. And note the super fashionable Midcoast Crossfit shirt. :)

At lunch I ran on the treadmill and I'm starting to see the payoff of the interval training. Today I gradually built up speed starting from 5.7 mph to 6.5 mph (9:13 min/mile) at the 30-minute mark. I stayed there until 50 minutes then did 4 minutes at 6.6 mph and the last 4 minutes at 6.7 mph (8:59 min/mile) and then walked for 2 minutes as cooldown. Overall, my pace was 9:43/mile for 6.18 miles. That's great considering I had to catch up to a sub-10 mile from warming up and then stayed there for the rest of the run.

It wasn't easy but it wasn't impossible. I think because I've always told myself I'm a slow runner I never really pushed myself to move below 10 min/mile. But I'm seeing it's possible. Probably not for a marathon but maybe, just *maybe* there could be a sub-10 half-marathon in my future. It won't be NYC in 8 weeks but there's at least 2 more in 2011 that I'm doing. I'm putting it out there that I'd love it to be the LI one on May 1 because that was my comeback 1/2 marathon where my time was 2 hours and 47 minutes. To come back a year later and rock it out with a PR would be sweet. That's my dream and I'm going to work on it.
