Doing what does not come naturally

I'm out in Long Island. We're doing the family visiting thing. I'm off until Monday. The holidays are officially here. There's lots of great food all around. Doing some last-minute shopping. It's the end of the year and I'm in that mode of kicking back and relaxing.

But I still have some miles to do. So after we went shopping this morning and did some errands I forced myself to put on my running clothes and I did a respectable 4.18 miles. Yeah! I know! It was so windy I didn't think I would get very far and, truthfully, I didn't care if I did. If I got in 2 miles today I would have been happy. The wind kept whistling in my ears and pushing my headphones right out! So I just put my head down and kept going. Despite being sore as hell from Crossfit the other day I felt fine from a cardio perspective so I kept shuffling along. Once I got to 3 miles I figured I'd get one more in and ended up with 4.18.

That totally flies in the face of what I wanted to do: lie around, eat cookies, and take a nap. I did end up taking a nap afterwards but I felt like it was deserved. After, we did some family visiting and now we're kicking back.

The plan is to run again tomorrow. But that's just a plan. It's Christmas week. I already did something unprecedented today by getting this run in. I'm not going to come down too hard on myself if I can't repeat it.
