All work and no play...

Now that I'm making the transition to more Xfit, less running, I'm finding that I'm living in a constant state of soreness. When I went less frequently I'd be sore but usually I'd be fine by the next time I went because I would have run in between. I went Saturday and Sunday, Sunday being particularly brutal on the upper body. When I woke up yesterday I was definitely feeling the cumulative effect.

I hadn't planned on going yesterday but it was a WOD I've always wanted to do: it had lumberjack slams (hitting huge tractor tires with a sledgehammer), wall climbs and rope climbs. It also had power cleans, box jumps, and walking weighted lunges but the other 3 things made up for the parts I don't particularly love. This goes back to an earlier post but now that I have friends at Xfit, I have support. I posted on my partner's FB page that I couldn't move and a few people chimed in that I should go to Xfit and get out the soreness. I didn't have workout clothes with me but I decided why the hell not. I'd get to do something fun and I couldn't be *more* sore. So I went to Marshall's on my lunch to buy some workout clothes (I always need them anyway, it's not like it was a waste of money). On my way to the back of the store my eyes landed on the hottest pair of heels and those somehow ended up in my cart. I did find a pair of flat sneakers on clearance so I got those too. I'll keep them in my car just in case.

I sent a picture of said hot heels to my partner and joked about doing box jumps and rope climbs in them. Well, what can I say. Dares were made, trash was talked, and the end result was this:

You know what? It was FUN! I'm not saying we never have fun at Xfit but when the clock starts we work and we work hard. The laughs come during dynamic stretching (like the wall sits) when everyone is complaining and after class but I usually rush home to feed the dogs.

Yesterday was a perfect example of how my "new" world is benefitting my fitness goals. I wasn't going to go and then, without even needing to ask, I had the support to want to go. And they were right, I'm either on a new plane of soreness that I've never experienced and am delirious (just kidding) or I really did work out the stiffness by going last night.

And a big thank you to Chris for taking my picture! :)

  1. I TOLD YOU those were hot heels. Marshall's? Damn. I may have to check out the one near me this weekend and see if they have them. Since I didn't buy those red ones in NYC.
